Art Director

Overview

McGuffin’s new Art Director will lead select client projects with passion and creative vision. You will help set the creative quality standard for your clients. Meeting or exceeding the expectations of the creative brief is what you do naturally. You love to create beautiful designs, doing smart, information-heavy layouts, art directing other designers, presenting your work to clients and collaborating with your team. 

We are a design-focused, small creative agency focused on helping financial and healthcare organizations with a host of things ranging from brand strategy, identity, advertising, websites, print and magazine design.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design brochures, direct mail, magazine articles, infographics, brand identities, website UI, email, digital display ads, social media ads, video storyboards and client presentations
  • Help with brand guidelines documents and establishing the design do’s and don’t
  • Direct junior designers; inspire creativity and elevate the work of others
  • Work directly with the client with the support of your team and creative director
  • Present concepts to your clients and nurture a positive collaborative client relationship
  • Art direct external photographers, illustrators, videographers, etc. 
  • Responsible for the creative quality of projects you lead
  • Execute high-quality design with tight deadlines, meeting expectations and goals
  • As needed, participate in McGuffin New Business team activities
  • Attend networking events as needed

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of design experience (agency experience not required, but a plus)
  • Experience collaborating with designers and copywriters
  • Experience art directing designers on concepts to fulfill the requirements in the creative brief 
  • Experience presenting work to clients and articulating design rationale
  • Experience in financial services a plus
  • Experience developing PowerPoint or InDesign templates a plus
  • Manager/mentor experience a plus

Required Skills

  • You are a great designer. You are especially skilled at brand identities and information design (can take complex information, make it quickly understandable and beautiful).
  • Think strategically from a creative standpoint; you are a creative problem solver
  • Ability to meet the expectation of the creative brief and give the client what they’re asking for; you also have the ability to see and concept beyond the obvious solution and push the creative envelope with out-the-box ideas
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; you show good self-awareness and have high ethical standards in relating to others
  • Highly-organized and self-motivated; you are self-disciplined and thrive at remote working
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Powerpoint and Google slides. Experience in Figma is a plus, but not required
  • Comfortable using Zoom for meetings and presentations and being on camera
